Egg plane Tomcat

•9 January 12 • Leave a CommentThe most exciting thing I’ve done today is get my hair cut by someone who doesn’t speak English, and whose own hair looked like what I can only describe as “inspired by manga”. After establishing that “ka” was “cut” (having failed to communicate the nuance of “trim”) and with the help of the universal hand gesture for “the cutting of things”, he threw a fidget-suppressing cloak over me and commenced.
As I watched him work, I wondered if “now” would be an appropriate time to stop him from overdoing the hairdryer-blowey-styley bit (I’m sure there’s a proper name for it) or if the only polite thing to do was to sit through the whole ordeal, and at least pretend to be appreciative and almost admiring at the end of it. How about “now”? …Now?
It took longer for him to finish with the hairdryer than the cut itself had taken; perhaps that’s his specialty–I had just ordered a burger from a guy whose forté was waffle fries, and he had chucked me a burger and was now going to make me sit through the painstaking, artful creation of an plus-size serve of waffle fries that I didn’t ask for.
To be fair, stopping him midway may be tantamount to a passenger telling me to “just put the plane down”. I’m a professional, damn it, and I take pride in my job, and I’m going to grease this sucker if it ki…you get the idea.
Styling complete, I have to say he did a rather nice job on the whole, and I quite liked the light curls he baked into the ends of my now-traumatised hair.
I smiled while he handed me my change then rounded the corner and made sure he wasn’t watching before I undid his work with a ponytail. Greased it.

•3 December 11 • Leave a CommentThis is the first MMO I’ve played that involves absolutely no combat (unless you count splanking), and while it certainly succeeds in being quirky and imaginative (nibbling pigs and milking butterflies, anyone?), what seems to appeal—at least to me—is the good ol’ casual farming aspect. In this case, quite literally—the proud owner of a new, modern, 3-storey house with 28 (count them!) crop gardening plots, I find that I derive the greatest satisfaction from sowing seeds and watering the garden, then pottering about doing random things and returning a few hours later to find crops ready for harvest. As another player put it to me, it’s the satisfaction of something come to fruition rather quickly. Bonus points because it’s food. Om nom nom.
I understand that this style of gameplay doesn’t appeal to everyone—in fact, T has already, based purely on my description of it, declared a rather resolute lack of interest in the game, probably because it involves too much resource gathering and not enough cars and/or guns. I am myself a great fan of shooters, but I find this odd little game is quite a nice way to pass time while watching shows and waiting for certain other games to launch.
Awesome shelter
•17 November 11 • Leave a CommentIs awesome. Was cruising around the Seletar Airport area with T and he noticed that a walkway shelter under construction bore the design of an aircraft wing with flaps extended. +20!!
The shelter goes on for quite a distance, curving as it does, and the “flaps” appear to be at different angles so we’re not sure if they’re actually movable or if it’s just for visual effect. If they actually move, it would be very, very excessive, but also very, very cool.
My Horse
•7 November 11 • Leave a CommentThis may be the girliest thing I’ve done with my iPhone, yet. Now that I have a 4S and can actually run games on it (unlike the 3G before it that was only one notch above using actual paper cups and string), I’m discovering all sorts of mobile gaming distractions—not the least of which is this game designed to slowly consume the souls of any girl who has ever liked horses.
Sherlock Holmes…

Siri
•5 October 11 • Leave a CommentSiri sounds rather like SARAH from Eureka, which makes it just that much cooler, not that it hasn’t already blown my mind. Top of acquisition list!
VFX: Sentry Sabotage
•23 September 11 • Leave a CommentAs a follow-up to the TF2 Sentry Sabotage post, here’s the one explaining the effects involved. Very cool! And the final product is still worth watching a few times.
